Tatar Mythology

On Saturday, January 31st, 2026, CHAKCHAK Foundation presented Tatar Mythology, the first installment of the Hidden Mythology of the Volga and Ural Region lecture series. The event began with a lecture by Dr. Gulshat Safiullina on the mystical world of Tatar legends, including the fearsome spirit Al Basty, the water mother Su Ansay, and the playful yet cunning wood goblin Şüräle (Shurale). Following the lecture, Dr. Inna Moiseeva, distinguished alumni of the IU Jacob’s School of Music performed Färit Yarullin’s piano suite Shurale (1938).
